KILLER IS DEAD is the second episode of Killer Is Dead. This episode functions as a basic combat tutorial, introducing the player to the main gameplay mechanics.

Introduction[]

Wake up... Mondo, wake up.

Open your eyes... slowly.
It's time to get some work done.
We've got prey that needs hunting.

An incoming call from Bryan.
Mondo is in the middle of a rendezvous with a smokin' hot lady.
Mondo! You listening to me?
Hey, gimme a sec. I'm in the middle of something.
It's time.

Sorry, baby, I've got a job to do.
But afterwards, we'll pick up where we left off.
I can't wait...
I know. I won't be long, I promise.
Then we can go to my place.

Plot[]

The scene opens on a chessboard, with gold and silver pieces. The gold queen lies on its side. A voice calls out from nowhere, urging Mondo to wake up and get to work.

Mondo Zappa is busy having a romantic moment with Natalia, a young Brazilian woman, when he gets a call from Bryan Roses. Mondo informs Natalia that he has to leave, but promises to return as soon as his work is done.

Mondo instructs his assistant, Mika Takekawa, to spill some wine on his target and note if they react. Mika does as Mondo asks, and the target does indeed move. However, Mondo's way forward is blocked by several creatures known as Wires, who proceed to attack him.

After dispatching the last of the Wires, Mondo's target, Damon, appears, sitting on the bar with his hand around Mika's neck. He throws her to the ground for spilling wine on his suit. Mondo informs Damon that he is his replacement, and that Bryan is waiting elsewhere to talk to Damon. Damon gives a parting bit of advice to his replacement: to find a "beacon of light" that'll never succumb to the darkness Executioners face. Mondo thanks Damon, promising to never forget his words, and attacks him.

A short while later, Damon meets with Bryan at a small table by a window. Bryan, a middle-aged man whose left half has been replaced with cybernetics, offers him a drink and informs him that his mistake was to go "against the state" - an "evil" action, or so Bryan believed. Damon asks Bryan if he accepted the darkness, to which Bryan responds that he did - entirely.

Damon confesses that he has been enthralled by "her" beauty and chaos, "the still dark night". Bryan tells him that everybody feels that way, but Damon dismisses his reassurances, as it is too late now. His final request of Bryan is to keep an eye on the "dangerous" Mondo, and to guide him down the right path. The two propose a toast to the Executioners, and drink their wine. Wine and blood begin to flow from a wound in Damon's neck. Damon asks Bryan if his life was worthwhile, shortly before blood erupts from his chest.

Bryan muses that "everything in life" is worthwhile, and puts down his glass. Walking over to the window, he confirms the completion of the mission: the KILLER IS DEAD. In the shadows behind Bryan, Mondo Zappa's face is visible. The mysterious voice from earlier gleefully announces that the killing will now begin.
